FAA Part 107 Requirements

All commercial drone operations in Tennessee require the pilot to hold an active FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate. Our network operators are verified Part 107 holders.

State Drone Laws

Tennessee regulates drone operations through six state statutes: SB 2106 (2016) prohibits flying within 250 feet of critical infrastructure for surveillance, HB 153 (2015) bans drone image capture over open-air events and fireworks, SB 1892 (2014) makes intentional surveillance of individuals or property a Class C misdemeanor, SB 1777 (2014) prohibits hunting/fishing surveillance, SB 796 (2013) requires law enforcement to obtain a search warrant for drone surveillance, and HB 2376 (2016) clarifies educational use permissions. Commercial drone operators must hold a valid FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate and obtain LAANC authorization for controlled airspace. Tennessee does not require a separate state drone license. Nashville/Davidson County prohibits drone operations in county parks except in designated flying areas (Ordinance 13.24.400). Military restricted airspace around Fort Campbell, NSA Mid-South, McGhee Tyson ANG Base, Arnold AFB, Holston Army Ammunition Plant, and Milan AAP is federally enforced and supersedes state regulations. Great Smoky Mountains National Park prohibits all drone flights within park boundaries under NPS regulations. TVA dams and power plants are designated critical infrastructure under SB 2106, requiring a 250-foot buffer.

Local Ordinances

The City of Sevierville does not maintain a dedicated municipal drone ordinance. Commercial operators follow FAA Part 107 rules and Tennessee state law. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park borders Sevierville to the south, and commercial drone operations are PROHIBITED within the national park boundaries. Operators must not fly drones within the national park under any circumstances. Commercial takeoff and landing from Sevierville city parks should be coordinated with the Sevierville Parks and Recreation Department. The Sevierville Golf Club and the city park along Forks of the River Parkway are recreational facilities where drone operations should be coordinated with city staff. Operators working near the commercial corridors along Highway 66 and the Parkway should notify property management before conducting inspections. The tourism corridor generates high demand for real estate photography and commercial property inspections.

Restricted Airspace

• Sevierville sits in primarily uncontrolled Class G airspace, but the Gatlinburg-Pigeon Forge Airport (GKT) Class D airspace is approximately 8 NM to the east. The Class D surface area (4 NM radius, surface to 3,000 ft MSL) may not extend to Sevierville, but operators should check the FAA UAS Facility Maps for exact boundaries. The McGhee Tyson Class C is approximately 20 NM to the west and does not extend over Sevierville.
• The Great Smoky Mountains National Park borders Sevierville to the south. Commercial drone operations are PROHIBITED within National Park Service boundaries under 36 CFR 1.5 and FAA regulations. The park boundary is approximately 5 NM south of downtown Sevierville. Operators must not fly drones within the national park boundaries under any circumstances.
• Sevierville is a major tourism destination, and temporary flight restrictions may activate during major events, festivals, and VIP visits. The Sevier County Fair and the Sevierville Fall Jeep Invasion generate significant visitor traffic. Operators should check the FAA TFR list before flying during major tourism events.
